Why they get conflated
A BIM model gets labelled a digital twin in marketing material while no live data source is attached.
Why it matters
A BIM without live data is not yet a digital twin; confusing the two buys operational functionality that isn't there.
How to tell them apart
Ask whether the model is continuously updated with sensor data or operational events. If not, it is a BIM, not a digital twin.
